About the event

Join The Prairie Garden Committee in celebrating the launch of The 2025 Prairie Garden: Budget-Minded Gardening. The event will be hosted live in the Atrium of McNally Robinson Booksellers, Grant Park and also available as a YouTube stream.

The afternoon will begin with a brief history of The Prairie Garden by Tim Evans, the chair of the committee producing the book. A brief introduction of the newest book by editor Evelyn Lundeen will follow.

The guest editor for this year’s edition, Dorothy Dobbie, will speak. She is a writer, broadcaster, and gardener. She founded Canada’s Local Gardener magazine and is a former editor of The Prairie Garden. Dorothy will speak about how she was able to create a beautiful garden on a budget.

Following Dorothy’s comments, we will hear from Stu Innes who will be speaking on plant propagation. Stu Innes is a retired Electrical Engineer. He is a bonsai educator and long-term gardener having experience in several areas of Manitoba. He believes that satisfaction in gardening requires a sense of humour.

To close out the speakers, we will hear from Stu’s wife, Debbie Innes who will be talking about seed saving. Debbie is a Master Gardener with self taught skills, knowledge (and love for) flowers, (growing and arranging), vegetable growing, food preservation and teaching. She’s using her knowledge of native plants to bring nature back starting with her local community park.

A brief question and answer period will follow the presentations as time permits.
