About the event

Guest editor Mark Bauche is a landscape architect. While he has the education and experience in designing landscapes of all scales and budgets, he also recognizes that everyone has a hand in designing the world around us, with or without degrees and certifications.

Listen to Mark as he shares his belief: – "Design here isn’t about ornamental perfection; it’s about stewardship, adaptability, and joy. When we shape our outdoor spaces – no matter how humble – we participate in something larger than ourselves. We create beauty, foster biodiversity, and deepen our relationship with place. The articles in this year’s edition offer practical tips, heartfelt stories, and bold ideas that empower readers to see design not as a luxury, but as a tool for expression and connection. These gardens are not just visual – they are lived in, tended to, shared, and celebrated."

"The long winters, short growing seasons, and extremes of drought or flood on the Prairies demand thoughtful, site-specific solutions in our landscapes. That’s why so many of the ideas in this edition are rooted in nature-based approaches – planting native species, capturing water, creating habitat, and working with (not against) the land. Gardeners across the Prairies are doing remarkable things with limited resources, proving that creativity thrives within constraint."

Brent Poole is our next speaker – a self described "avid veggie gardener," from Oak Bluff, MB. Brent is a Prairie Garden board member. He has grown some giant sized vegetables in the recent past. In this 2026 edition of The Prairie Garden he shares 7 tips on growing vegetables.
