About the event

The event will be hosted live in the Atrium of McNally Robinson Booksellers, Grant Park and also available as a YouTube stream.
Roses. The term ‘roses’ conjures up images of blooms ranging from soft immaculate whites to brilliant shades of red that extend across almost all of the colour spectrum. Along with an intoxicating scent; satiny, soft petals; and shiny bright green foliage, all of these characteristics have resulted in roses being referred to as the queen of flowers. Once seen as delicate beauties that could only survive in warmer climes, decades of work carried out by dedicated and skilled rosarians has resulted in the development of roses that can survive even the harsh winters and wide variations in temperature typically seen in Zone 3 climates. With the evolution of the Explorer, Parkland, Canadian Artists, and 49th Parallel series, there is now a rose available to please everyone’s taste. Open up the pages of the book to discover “All About Roses”.
Rick Durand’s career has been focused on plant breeding for prairie hardy trees, shrubs, roses and perennials. In his retirement, he continues to breed, develop and evaluate new trees and roses for the prairie region in partnership with Bylands Nurseries in West Kelowna, B.C. and Futura Farms in St. Andrews, Manitoba.
Plants are Marilyn Latta’s passion. As chair of Nature Manitoba’s Habitat Conservation Committee, she was instrumental in the development of the Manitoba Tall Grass Prairie Preserve and has also been heavily involved with the development of Henteleff Park. A love of both plants and photography has led her to present workshops on gardening and on native plants as well as leading many interpretive walks.
