This is the 75th edition of The Prairie Garden. Its history is reviewed beginning in 1937 when it was known as the Winnipeg Flower Garden and continued up to the 2014 edition. The publication officially became The Prairie Garden with the 1957 edition. A brief history of various individuals who acted as editorial staff is included in the overall book’s history.
Many of the articles contain the word “garden” in them. There are numerous articles on types of gardens. Examples include Victorian, water, winter, rock & alpine, community & xeriscapes. Articles on methods of gardening include for example sustainable & shade gardening. Other articles deal with specific plants such as cliff green, lavender, succulents, microgreens, coneflowers & poisonous plants. Check out the articles on speciality gardens like those that host weddings, fairy gardens or the indigenous circle garden. Gardening can be for children as well – read about how to manage a garden for the little ones.
A garden would not be a garden without living creatures – look for articles on birds such as hummingbirds, bees and butterflies and their caterpillars as well as mosquitoes (which we could easily do without).
