Why do people garden? There are many reasons including that it makes us feel healthy, connected to nature and feel that we are a vibrant part of the environment. When a plan for a new garden has gone from the drawing board to reality, there is always a sense of satisfaction. But remember that this is only the beginning of the project and not the end. Plants will have been given room to breathe; the soil will be largely weed-free and moisture levels are matched to the needs of the plants. Sun-loving plants are growing in the sun while shade lovers are protected from too much sun. There is recognition that problems will likely develop at one time or another and there is a sense of satisfaction in helping the plant overcome such a challenge.
